  8. You can also use this oil to flavour fish and poultry dishes, as per South American cuisine!

Paicotea

The South Americans make tea from the Paico plant but we have the oil for it which makes it even more potent! Here’s some benefits:

  1. An expectorant and decongestant, Paicotea can help relieve coughs, colds, and bronchitis.
  2. Paicotea essential oil contains terpenoids and flavonoids. What’s interesting is that terpenoids are the defense forces in the plant while flavonoids are compounds that help the body to boost its anticancer, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Together, this position Paicotea as an amazing addition to your wellness toolkit for almost any ailment.
  3. It can also treat fungal infections, acne and eczema.
  4. Paicotea is also effective at repelling insects such as mosquitoes, making it a great insect repellant for our tropics.

Ecuadorian Ylang Ylang

After visiting the YL farm and learning all about Ylang Ylang,, I have a new found respect for this oil. Unlike many commercial Ylang Ylang scents which can be overpoweringly acerbic, this Ylang from Ecuador is milder and gently floral. I love it!

  1. –  Ylang is a key ingredient in Chanel No. 5!
  2. – The flower actually originates from Malaysia.
  3. – Workers have to dock the trees so they can reach to harvest the flowers otherwise it’s too high to reach!
  4. – Ylang is a delicate flower. It needs to be hand picked and distilled in small cookers. Treat it like a lady!
  5. – Only women pick the flowers as they have a better eye for spotting the red centre which means the flowers are ready for harvesting.
  6. – 100 kg of Ylang Ylang flowers yields 1 kg of essential oil! (that’s a lot of work!)
  7. – Workers in our YL farm are allocated to specific rows of the Ylang-ylang trees. Because they are paid by the pound, they learn to treat their trees well so that the eo yield is higher and they get paid more.

Palo Santo

The Palo Santo forest that I’ve visited is one of my most amazing life experiences. Even if you come out from a noisy busy environment, stepping into the forest, all chaos would have melt away, within you and around you.

That’s why Palo Santo is also known as Holy Wood. This is a great oil for meditation and vision casting for your work, family and life. I’ve also used it to cleanse spaces of unwanted, negative energy and to shoo spirits away. Some of my family stories here – part one, two and three

  1. – Palo Santo is also known as Sacred Frankincense of the west. It is sacred, removes negative energy and to repel insects
  2. – Unlike other trees where u chop them down to chip and distill, you need to wait for Palo Santo to fall over first otherwise the oil produced does not meet YL standards for therapeutic benefits
  3. – Nearing the end of their lives, the roots will recede into the trunk and thus the tree will fall
  4. – A tree can live from 5 to 20 years before falling over.
  5. – Fallen Palo Santo trees take 3 to 4 years to dry out before the oil can be distilled out. So your bottle of Palo Santo takes 24 years to produce!
