Why Finding Your Dirty Words Is Powerful For Your Business

So what are trigger words and how can they help?

In this case, trigger words are the words you NEVER want your audience or friends to describe you as. Like if ever they say that you’re “this” or “that”, you would have an emotional reaction – icky, repulsed, rejecting, emotional, etc.

The reason why these are powerful is because they are actually a part of you that you REJECT or HIDE FROM for a reason. And when we reject a part of us, power that comes from acknowledging and working through it is also buried.

Here’s an example. One of my trigger words is “useless”. When I choose to accept that I’ve been useless and how when I’ve been useless, has been serving me, it does two things for me:

It frees me up from the opposite end of needing to be useful and productive all the time
It helps me see where being useless has also been good for me – for e.g. when I chose to play and knowing that it does not sow back into my business. But play is important isn’t it? So is rest.

How can I find my trigger words?

One way to find out what are your trigger words is to recall past experiences where you had a strong emotional reaction to. It can be when you’ve an disagreement with someone that left you upset. Someone who had criticised you. A day gone wrong and you’re super critical of yourself. A good number of these incidents may also be from your childhood.

The other way is go through this list below. For any word that you have a strong emotional reaction to, write them down.

greedy
wealthy
entitled
useless
failure
selfish
self centred
whore
stupid
egoistic
disgusting
naive
lazy
unwanted
unlovable
ambitious
serious
crazy
outrageous

Ok I got my trigger words, now what?

Spend 10 minutes each week or month working through each trigger word. You can also work on them when you feel that it’s time to, or that you’re going through a rough patch or a new season in your business.

Some questions that will help:

Why does this word evoke a strong reaction in me?
How have I overcompensated in the past, in order NOT to be this word?
What are the benefits when I accept and embody this quality?
What is this word trying to teach me?
What are my next steps in my life and business?
